Gamestop is apparently recalling all 8GB WiiU Basic models, according to legitimate Kotaku sources.

It is uncertain why Gamestop is recalling the 8GB models of the WiiU just days after the E3 video game conference in Los Angeles. Stephen Totilo of Kotaku makes a good point, Nintendo can be discontinuing 8GB model ahead of a price drop for the 32GB Premium model.

It makes sense to drop the 8GB WiiU, for $50 more you can get 4x the storage space along with some nifty accessories, and a nicer color?

We have also contacted Nintendo and Gamestop about the matter.

UPDATE:

Nintendo tells Polygon that the 8GB WiiU will still be available at retail.

“There is a current misperception about Wii U hardware,” said Charlie Scibetta, Nintendo of America’s senior director of Corporate Communications, in a statement to Polygon. “To clarify: Nintendo is working with its retail partners to simply rebalance the stock of the White 8GB and the Black 32GB Wii U models in the market. Consumers looking for either model will continue to find them available.”
